Washington, D.C. —  Today, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mark Takano (CA-41) released the following statement to announce a roundtable on the Improve Well-Being for Veterans Act next week:

“One week ago, I promised that our Committee would host a roundtable followed by a legislative hearing to allow sufficient time to fully consider the provisions and impact of the Improve Well-Being for Veterans Act. Next week, I will deliver on this promise by scheduling our roundtable.

“We need new solutions that will increase coordination among community-based nonclinical services, improve the quality of life for veterans and their families, and help prevent veteran suicide as a result. However, to ensure veterans have access to these services, we must ensure the infrastructure exists to connect veterans with the community-based organizations seeking to serve them and that critical accountability and quality assurance measures are in place.

“By working together with my Republican colleagues, Veteran Service Organizations and Subject Matter Experts, I’m confident that we can develop new language that both Congress and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs can agree upon-- and that will save veteran lives.”
